Theory Test
What is it?
The theory test is a step which has to be passed before you are able to take your "L" Test.
What does the test consist of?
The theory test is made up of two parts; the multiple choice part and the hazard perception part. The multiple choice part is delivered using a touch screen computer and mouse and the hazard perception part records your responses through the use of a computer mouse button.
What is the pass mark?
The pass mark for the multiple choice part of the theory test is 30 out of 35. The pass mark for the hazard perception part of the theory test is 44 out of 75. You need to pass both parts to pass the theory test. If you pass one part and fail the other you will fail the whole test, and you will need to take both parts again.
How long does it take to get the results?
You will get your results from your theory test immediately and if you have passed will be given your certificate then. If you fail, you will be given details regarding re-booking.
How long is the Theory Test Pass Certificate valid for?
You have 2 years to pass your "L" Test from the time you obtain your Theory Test Pass Certificate.
Do I have to have passed my Theory Test before having Driving Lessons?
No, however it is beneficial to have an understanding of the Highway Code.
How do I book a Theory Test?
Either by internet, post or phone. Your instructor will have contact details for you.
